A train ride and a hotel stay can both put your Bilt points to work. For Bilt October Rent Day, the useful question is which redemption replaces an expense you already planned—not which promotion advertises the larger percentage.
The October 1 transfer window
Hilton’s window runs from 12:00 a.m. Eastern on October 1 to 2:59 a.m. Eastern on October 2, 2026. Amtrak’s runs from 12:00 a.m. Eastern to 11:59 p.m. Pacific on October 1. 1
What 10,000 Bilt points become
The base ratios differ: Bilt to Hilton is 1:1; Bilt to Amtrak is 2:1. The table calculates the tier bonuses on top of those ratios. 1
| Bilt status | Amtrak points | Hilton points |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | 6,250 | 17,500 |
| Silver | 7,500 | 20,000 |
| Gold | 8,750 | 25,000 |
| Platinum | 10,000 | 27,500 |
| Platinum+ | 11,250 | 30,000 |
For example, a Gold member receives 8,750 Amtrak points or 25,000 Hilton points. Comparing those totals alone is like comparing currencies without an exchange rate: it does not establish which trip costs less.
Use a real booking as your test
Here is a hypothetical planning exercise, not an available fare or room quote. Imagine you have a train trip priced at 8,000 Amtrak points and a hotel night priced at 30,000 Hilton points. The Gold-tier transfer shown above would cover the train’s point requirement, but it would leave the hotel redemption 5,000 points short. Your cash alternatives and existing balances could still change the decision.
Write down the full cash price of the trip you would actually book, the award’s point requirement, any cash charges and the points already in that program. Then work backward to the Bilt points needed. Avoid treating a hotel night you would never otherwise buy as money saved.
When keeping Bilt points makes sense
Keep the points flexible if you do not have a bookable trip, the award costs more than the cash alternative justifies, or a transfer would strand a small balance. A short promotion is a reason to check a trip—not a reason to invent one.
