Atmos Rewards 2027: Which Earning Method Fits Your Flights?

Three earning formulas can favor different trips. Compare your expected year before changing your Atmos flight-earning method.

A long, inexpensive flight and a short, expensive flight can reward very different travel habits. The Atmos Rewards 2027 changes introduce three flight-earning options. The right comparison is your likely travel over the year, not just your next ticket.

Three ways to measure eligible flights

Announced base-point formulas; elite, cabin and promotional bonuses excluded.
MethodBase formula
Distance1 point per mile flown
Price5 points per eligible dollar; taxes and fees excluded
Segments500 points per eligible flight segment

The official fact sheet says the choice applies to flight points and status points. It does not change credit-card spending or non-flight partner earning. 2

How the choice changes a trip’s base points

These are hypothetical eligible domestic itineraries, not real fare quotes or guaranteed earnings. Assume no elite, cabin or promotional bonuses. The inputs are: 2,000 miles / $250 eligible spend / two segments; 800 miles / $500 / two segments; and 600 miles / $150 / four segments. Eligible spend excludes taxes and fees.

Calculated base points for the three hypothetical itineraries.
ScenarioDistancePriceSegments
Longer, lower-cost travel2,0001,2501,000
Shorter, higher-cost travel8002,5001,000
Several short segments6007502,000

The examples favor three different methods. The first rewards inexpensive distance; the second rewards higher eligible spending; the third rewards multiple short segments. None establishes the best choice for a traveler’s whole year.

Make the comparison across your expected year

Make a simple trip list with eligible miles, pretax/fee spend and segments. Total each input, apply the formulas and then check fare and partner eligibility. In these examples together, distance produces 3,400 base points, price 4,500 and segments 4,000. A traveler taking all three would reach a different conclusion from one taking only the first trip.

A choice does not erase fare exclusions

The current earning page says Saver X fares booked on or after June 11, 2026 and flown on or after August 1, 2026 earn no Atmos points or status points. Do not assume selecting segments makes an otherwise excluded ticket eligible. 3

CardTuned’s next step: compare your expected eligible travel, then confirm the current fare and partner rules in your account before changing the setting. This report verifies the announcement and fact sheet; it does not establish that every member’s selector is already available.
