The Citi Qatar transfer bonus catches your eye: you have bank points ready, and the headline promises “up to 35%” more Avios. The important question is which tier your individual conversion reaches—and whether you can wait for the extra Avios before booking.
Start with the Avios amount, not the bank-point balance
| Base Avios in one conversion | Bonus | Illustrative total |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 49,999 | 15% | 40,000 → 46,000 |
| 50,000–99,999 | 25% | 60,000 → 75,000 |
| 100,000 or more | 35% | 100,000 → 135,000 |
The tier boundaries come from Qatar’s campaign terms. The totals are CardTuned calculations. They start with base Avios after the partner conversion ratio; they do not assume that every Citi card converts each ThankYou point into one Avios. 1
Splitting a transfer changes the result
The difference is 10,000 Avios. That makes transaction size worth checking, but it does not make a larger transfer automatically sensible. If your intended trip needs only a smaller amount, extra Avios could sit unused while you give up other uses for the bank points.
The terms use the transaction date reported by the partner, provide no retroactive bonus for conversions outside the campaign, and say a credited conversion cannot be reversed. 1
Price the trip before moving the points
Start with an actual itinerary: the dates, cabin, Avios required and cash charges. Record what you are willing to pay if the available award disappears. A larger balance is only useful when it helps you book something you want at an acceptable total cost.
- Confirm your account can transfer to Qatar and read the ratio and transfer increments shown before submission.
- Calculate the base Avios, applicable tier and eventual total separately.
- Check whether you can book with the base amount alone or would need to wait for the bonus.
- Save the offer terms and transfer confirmation, including the date and amount.
When to use the offer—and when to leave the points alone
Consider the promotion when you have a specific use, an acceptable backup and a conversion amount that makes sense without stretching to a tier. Keep the points where they are if the only reason to move them is the largest percentage in the headline.
